ASFAs set to make bold comeback to redefine African fashion

For two years, the grand spectacle of the Abryanz Style & Fashion Awards (ASFAs) was absent from the red carpet. Designers who once filled Kampala Serena Hotel with breathtaking fashion moments had to pause, models who once graced the stage had to wait, and the fashion industry—known for its vibrance—felt the silence. But this year, the wait is over. On December 12, 2025, the ASFAs return, and they are not just picking up where they left off—they are starting a movement.

This year’s theme, “THE FASHIVISTS”, is more than just a creative concept; it is a call to action. In a world where fashion has long been a mirror of society, the ASFAs are turning the runway into a platform for change. It is no longer just about glamour—it is about using fabric, texture, and design to tell stories that matter. From self-expression to inclusivity, from challenging norms to celebrating African innovation, ASFA 2025 is redefining what it means to be fashionable.

The journey of the ASFAs began in 2013, with a vision to recognize and celebrate African fashion creatives. Over the years, the awards have grown, honoring legendary figures like David Tlale, Mai Atafo, Supermodel Aamito Lagum, Ozwald Boateng, Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth Bagaya of Tooro, Santa Anzo, Jidenna, and East African stars such as Sauti Sol, Kenzo, Bebe Cool, and A Pass. What started as an industry event has become one of the most prestigious fashion celebrations on the continent.

But this year is different. After a two-year hiatus, the ASFAs are not just returning—they are reinventing themselves. The show promises to be bigger, bolder, and braver, featuring extraordinary performances, global appearances, and a red carpet that will once again bring together Africa’s top creatives, designers, and trendsetters.

For many in the fashion industry, the ASFAs are more than just an event; they are a validation of years of hard work, creativity, and resilience. Young designers dream of being on that stage. Models see it as a gateway to the international fashion scene. Stylists, makeup artists, and influencers find their work recognized on a grand scale. It is a night where African fashion is not just displayed but honored, elevated, and projected to the world.

As December approaches, anticipation is high. What stories will be told through fabric? Which designers will push the boundaries of activism through fashion? How will the industry respond to the challenge of “The Fashivists”? One thing is certain—when the lights go up at Kampala Serena Hotel, fashion will no longer just be about looking good; it will be about making a statement.
