I suspect Ugandan videos have hit their frontier – that ka point beyond which they cannot break through. They all visually look the same, there is no drift, no detour from the normal. Even the storylines, the close-up shots, the choice of costumes. If you watch one music video, you have watched them all. Is it the artistes, the directors?
Spice Diana with Kagobako falls prey to this frontier. Those living room shots, that striking red outfit, Spice Diana’s glossy lips with a corset-like appearance to mimic an avant-garde, it has all been done before. It is the curse of this frontier.
The only stand out scene is of the bodyless hands outstretched out, all competing for the same dude of the Chris Evans aesthetic. And maybe that scene where the morning sunshine falls onto Spice Diana’s face. Beyond that, the art is asleep in this video, and it is not about to wake up.
