Six people were arrested on Wednesday afternoon and detained at Central Police Station on various charges.
The arrested individuals include Musa Olega, David Malinga, Denis Lwanga, Becker, Hamza Luzindana, and Johnson Magala Akanyijuka.
This development was confirmed by the police, who stated that the suspects were arrested on allegations of public nuisance and careless driving.
“Yes, we arrested six suspects this afternoon on allegations of public nuisance, and we might arraign them before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court,” said Luke Owoyesigire, Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson.
Owoyesigire added that all drivers among the suspects would be charged with careless driving.
The suspects are said to be affiliated with Ugandan singer Patrick Mulwana, also known as Alien Skin. Their arrests followed a city procession on Wednesday in support of the artist’s upcoming concert on Friday.
Ahead of the event, Mulwana led a walk through the city centre with his aides, encouraging people to attend. The crowd grew significantly, disrupting several businesses.
It is reported that Patrick Mulwana evaded arrest and fled to an unknown location.
According to an eyewitness who preferred to remain anonymous, the arrests were necessary as many people felt unsafe.
“Ever since the incidents at Enkuuka and Forest Park Buloba, I avoid crowds associated with Alien Skin. I rode off on my boda boda, and I saw others running. I can only imagine what might have happened if the police had not intervened,” he said.
