Musician Abdulaziz Musigazi, known by his stage name as Vyroota is making news after he allegedly got a 19-year-old woman pregnant and then forced her to get an abortion.
She reported the singer to police after learning he was uninterested in her.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said Vyroota is accused of repeatedly pressuring the girl to terminate the pregnancy, claiming he was unprepared to support both the child and the mother.
However, Vyroota’s manager, Walugembe dismissed the allegations, contending that the singer is not romantically involved with any woman. He further stated that the said woman is old enough to make her own choices.
Because the Ugandan Constitution states that abortion is illegal and the Penal Code Act criminalizes abortion, except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk, Vyroota was taken into custody for questioning.
Police said they intend to establish facts before making their next move.
