Spice Diana’s concert was not only a celebration of her 10-year music journey but also a testament to her remarkable humanity and compassion. During her show, she took a moment to pay tribute to the late MP Muhammed Ssegirinya and also fundraised for two visually-impaired children.
Spice Diana’s Siri Regular concert in 2023 received mixed reactions. Most of the reviews focused on the beauty of the stage and set-up rather than the singer’s artistry.
Last Friday evening, she had the chance to redeem herself by staging another concert at Serena Kampala’s Victoria Hall, which this time was in celebration of her 10-year-musical journey.
This was the perfect moment for Diana Namukwaya to prove to critics that being around for all that time was no mistake.
She had the right people for this concert. From ATS Events Company for all the set-up to KT as the promoter, surely, nothing could go wrong apart from the execution on the stage.
The set-up was beautiful with Spice Diana’s journey from when she was a child to her first concert, studio sessions and everything about her that was documented was summarised in different portraits at the entrance. There was also a lobby where people sat before the concert started.
Spice Diana has been known for making a statement during her entrance. At Cricket Oval, she was seen at the top of the stage before being escalated to the stage after a fireworks display.
In 2018, she was dressed like an angel, although one of the wings failed to flap when she got on stage. Last Friday, after a five-minute blackout on the stage at 9pm, she was seen in a rotating box, which excited her fans.
With this moment done, Spice Diana surrounded by about eight dancers started her performance with Onsanula, her 2014 single that kickstarted her career.
She then followed it with Anti Kale, Tekinanta, Bajikona. Jangu Ondabe, Kwata Wanno, Kyuma, Baligeya Nkoona and Best Friend Wange, her collaboration with King Saha before he was joined by Chris Evans to do their Tondwiisa song for her first session.
Kibadde Kisa, a gospel song thanking the Lord for her success was what she started with for her second set before doing Ndi Mu Love, Emaala, Omusheshe and Ready with Fik Fameica before Nince Henry joined her to do their Body hit.
In her last session, she did Kokonya. Nkwewulila, Omulembe and Siri Regular.
Spice Diana had to postpone her 2018 maiden concert at Front Page Namasuba after the death of Mowzey Radio and last Friday, saw her facing a similar situation.
The day before, Muhammad Segirinya, a prominent politician passed on and many thought she would cancel the show. She, however, spared a few moments during the event to pay tribute to the deceased politician by extending heartfelt condolences to the family and everyone who held the late in high regard during her second set.
Not just that, Spice Diana also paid tribute to Mowzey Radio by performing their Ngenda Masso song alongside Aziz Azion on the guitar.
The Siri Regular artiste could not hold her emotions when she sought support for two visually-impaired children live on stage.
The audience was cold for most part of the show apart from the ‘Spice gadgets’ in every corner of the hall but the show got life when Stabua Natoro came on stage. Most people got on their feet to sing her biggest song Oliwamukisa.
The other unforgettable moment was when Pallaso joined her to do their Koona duet. It was the first time the Mayanja brother was stepping on stage after his recent situation with Alien Skin and the sight of him sent the crowd in excitement and as they were still enjoying this moment, Fik Gaza also joined in to do his Bukuta. After leaving Pallaso and Spice Diana also did Chameleone’s Effuga Bbi jam.
Spice Diana’s concert was not only a celebration of her 10-year music journey but also a testament to her remarkable humanity and compassion.
