The iKON Awards have returned for their third edition that will be taking place next year in a promising night of glamour and celebration of excellence in Uganda’s film and television industry, organisers have said.
During the launch by Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU) and Sauti Plus, it was announced that the grand ceremony is slated for March 29.
The launch event featured a vintage night theme, bringing together industry legends and rising stars to celebrate the magic of the 1990s. The nostalgic tribute to oldies and pop music of the era set the tone for a night of celebration and anticipation for the upcoming awards ceremony.
Usama Mukwaya, the Producer of the iKon Awards and Director of Operations at the Ikon Inspire Foundation, said the nominations will be announced in January, adding that they had increased the number of slots within each category from four to five.
Humphrey Nabimanya, CEO of Reach A Hand Uganda on the other hand emphasized the importance of collaboration in growing Uganda’s film industry. “We need to partner with established industries like Nigeria’s to learn from them and work together. That’s how we’ll win. We’re in the game of winning, and we can only win together,” he said.
After that statement, he also announced that the award ceremony will have legendary Nigerian actors Patience Ozokwo and Konayo O. Konayo in attendance.
As part of the awards, the organisers host a series of activities leading up to the main event, including masterclasses during which young and upcoming filmmakers learn valuable skills from professionals.
The iKON Awards have rapidly become a highlight in Uganda’s entertainment calendar, honoring outstanding talent in the local film industry and promoting storytelling that addresses critical social issues.
The night was more than just a launch as some people walked away with goodies from different partners including the best dressed male and female personalities during the evening.
