10 years later, Madrat and Chiko still standing strong

To celebrate their 10th anniversary in the entertainment industry, standup comedy duo Madrat and Chiko had to do it bigger and better.

Besides Uganda’s independence eve having another comedy show at Serena Hotel, “10 years of Madrat & Chiko” show organized by Talent Africa was the first time the duo were having a an event at Sheraton Gardens, a venue that had never hosted a comedy show before.

The duo, however, got a sigh of relief at 8pm when the venue was filled up with their fans. The event brought together a vibrant audience of fans, well-wishers, fellow comedians, and an audience from all walks of life with the Deputy Speaker Tomas Tayebwa as the guest of honor. Phiona Nyamutoro, Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development (Minerals) and Kampala Central Division constituency Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko were also part of the revelers.

Madrat and Chiko were impressive with their jokes, adding their trademark satire to the event, and providing a humorous commentary on current events and societal issues.

As it has been before, the Deputy Speaker, Nyamutoro and other people in the audience were not spared from the duo’s jokes and the culprits did not take any offense as they just laughed it off like other people in the audience.

At one point, Chiko even had a joke about Madrat’s mother who was in the audience, saying Madrat ate most of his condolence money that was sent on his phone when he lost his mother but will return the favor when the same happens to him. Furthermore, Chiko went ahead and said the apple does not fall far from the tree, relating to Madrat’s same height with his mother.

Their comedic genius not only entertained but also sparked conversations among attendees, making the night both enjoyable, thought-provoking, and a true revelation of the huge impact they have had on comedy and the entertainment industry at large.

Hosted by Uncle Mo and Uncle Mark, the evening featured performances from Mesach Semakula, Lydia Jazmine. Toniks, Mickie Wine and Ziza Bafana among others while comedians Omala Daniel, The Talkers and Tumbeetu also took their turns in entertaining the crowd.

Aly Allibhai, CEO of Talent Africa Group, the organizer of the event, expressed his gratitude for the support received. “We are excited to celebrate a decade of Madrat and Chiko, a show that has become a staple in Ugandan entertainment. The support from our partners and the audience has been phenomenal, and we look forward to many more years of laughter and creativity.”

Uganda Waragi and UBL’s support for their unwavering support and partnership with the Ugandan entertainment industry should be credited because their commitment to supporting local talent and promoting cultural events has been instrumental in the growth of the sector.

The 10th-anniversary celebration was a testament to the enduring spirit of Ugandan comedy and music.
