Comedians Sammie and Shawa have finally issued a public apology for their skit about Bobi Wine, which caused backlash. Several of the former presidential candidate’s supporters on social media found the skit insensitive.
Well as the duo had initially remained unapologetic about their act despite the backlash, they have now expressed remorse.
In a post on their Facebook page Sammie and Shawa wrote: “We want to take a moment to apologize for our recent performance about Principal Bobi Wine We realized that our skit was hurtful, and for that, we are truly sorry. Please note that our intention wasn’t to hurt anyone, but to express our creativity and humor as comedians. Thanks for your support, and we appreciate your love. Thank you for holding us accountable and for being part of our journey. We’re committed to making you laugh and entertain you, while also being sensitive to the experiences and feelings of all individuals and groups.”
The mimicry act of the duo was inspired by last week’s chaotic standoff between Bobi Wine and armed security officers who shot a teargas canister that injured Bobi Wine in Wakiso District.
