Popular comedian Herbert Ssegujja, commonly known as Teacher Mpamire, has expressed his disappointment with fellow comedians who fail to set boundaries in their work.
A heated debate continues about whether comedians should limit the words they use and the skits they create while performing. Some comedians have faced public criticism for going vulgar in their attempts to entertain, while others have been scorned for making fun of sensitive issues.
“Not everything should be turned into comedy. Let’s have respect for comedy! We have invested a lot in this fraternity,” posted Teacher Mpamire on his Facebook page.
His remarks come in the wake of backlash against comedians Sammie and Shawa, who faced social media criticism for mocking National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, after he was allegedly hit by a teargas canister during a scuffle between Police and his team in Bulindo, Wakiso District.
Despite the backlash, Sammie and Shawa remain unapologetic, insisting they will continue doing their job as comedians.
