Weasel confronts event organizer over unpaid performance fees

“Nobat must pay my money. I cannot sing, and then you tell me that you don’t have the money to pay me,” these were the firm words of singer Weasel Manizo during a phone interview with Spark TV, as he explained the altercation with event organizer Nobat Twizire, also known as Nobat Events.

On Tuesday evening, a video clip surfaced on social media showing Weasel physically assaulting Nobat, who is known as a self-styled generational promoter. The incident reportedly occurred after Nobat failed to pay Weasel for his performance, leading the artist to lose his temper.

In the interview, Weasel elaborated on the situation: “I’ve been holding back from talking about this for a while. I cannot perform and then be told that there’s no money to pay me. That guy is extremely disrespectful. He even had the audacity to tell me that he organized the concert just to ‘help’ me. It’s unfair that I completed the show without receiving a single coin.”

Weasel also mentioned that he had been trying to meet with Nobat to discuss the concert’s earnings, but was repeatedly met with excuses: “I have been waiting to meet Nobat to find out how much we collected, but he kept telling me he doesn’t have any money.”

The incident revolves around the recently concluded “Memories of GoodLyfe” concert, which took place on August 2nd at Hotel Africana in Kampala. The event, largely Weasel’s initiative, was organized in response to fan requests to commemorate the memories of the GoodLyfe Crew, the iconic duo formed by the late Mowzey Radio (real name Moses Ssekibogo) and Weasel (real name Douglas Mayanja).

This was Weasel’s first solo concert since the tragic passing of his singing partner in 2018.
