Ex-police boss suspends himself after ‘innocent banter’ about Martha Kay

Social media has been buzzing since Tuesday evening after a former senior police officer made what he thought was a simple joke against an X (formerly Twitter) post by online comedienne and social media influencer, Martha Kagimba, popularly known as Martha Kay.

In a Tuesday evening post, the comedienne who, in 2019 united East African young men with her leaked nude photos and sex videos, said “Confidence is sooo attractive. Whenever you send a message and delete it, you lose confidence points. Stop!?.”

In what he later defended as an innocent social media banter, former police political commissar, AIGP (rtd) Asan Kasingye in an 11-word reply to Martha’s post said “Even when you post your nudes accidentally? Be serious.”

By the time of filing this story, Kasingye’s reply which he later deleted had gained more traction than Martha’s original post.

It had become fodder for the Gen Zs on social media, with many wondering what had become of the 60-year-old former police spokesperson as others only cheered him on.
After seemingly realizing that his “innocent’’ reply had sent social media bees buzzing as they ‘cut word’ with their keyboards, he deleted it and followed up with an apology.
Kasingye further said he had suspended himself from X for about a month to probably reflect on his actions and the impact of what he posted on social media.

“My post in response to @MarthaKayug was an innocent banter. It was not intended to insinuate anything. Having realised the impact, I deleted it & will not make any post on this platform for a month wef from tonight the 7th of Aug. I apologise for the inconvenience it has caused,” he said.
