Weasel redeems himself at concert

In November 2017, Mowzey Radio and Weasel celebrated a decade on the entertainment scene with a concert at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds. Three months later in February 2018, Mowzey Radio passed on at Case Clinic. The duo did not enjoy the success of their last concert.

Last Friday, the remaining half of Goodlyf, Weasel held a concert in memory of his late partner Mowzey Radio at Hotel Africana, a venue he is so familiar with. It is at this venue that the duo established themselves as Uganda’s, if not East Africa’s biggest duo with the number of successful concerts they held at the venue. So it was like coming home for Weasel only that this time he was staging the concert alone.

The concert came at a time when Weasel was still undergoing some kind of healing, he needed all the support from the sector and support he got from fellow artistes and the hundreds who came through for the concert, disputing earlier speculations of a flop.Weasel had three sessions, with the first coming at 10:15pm after an introduction from Washington Ebangait, a producer who is behind more than 50 Goodlyf hits.

“We gave Bebe Cool, Chameleone and Bobi Wine a run for their money with the hits we made together. The competition was good,” Washington said. This introduction was however not swift as it took another 10 minutes for Weasel to show up. We later learnt that the delay was caused because the band had not yet been fully paid.

The silence, however, did not stop the audience from singing Goodlyf songs such as Bread and Butter and Ngenda Maaso as they waited for Weasel to get on stage. When sanity was restored, the National and Buganda anthems were played, signaling the start of the long awaited concert.

Weasel took to the stage, clad in a gold coated metallic outfit with a helmet and kicked off his first session with Talk and Talk, before proceeding with Juicy, Heart attack, Obudde, Kiduula, Nkwetaga, Ngenda Maaso, Wiggle Wiggle and Magnetic. During the break, Chameleone, his elder brother came next and did a number of songs before Weasel joined him on their collaboration Bomboclat.Wease then proceeded with Lwaki Onumya, Breath Away, Mpa Love before Lydia Jazmine joined him to do Neera, Jazmine attempting to sing Radio’s part which she failed to execute. The songs that followed were all collaborations including Gutamiiza with B2C, Gudi Gude with Khalifa Aganaga and Nakudata with Omulangira Suuna.
