How the hangout with Fik and Maurice went down

There are two categories of artistes; those who appeal to the typical Ugandan and those who are deliberate with their audience. Artistes such as Joshua Baraka, Maurice Kirya, Kohen Jayce, among others. The audience that listens to these artistes does not just follow beats, they appreciate music. That is the audience that attended the just-concluded Jameson Hangout at Ndere Centre on Saturday organised by Talent Africa Group.

The numbers that came out for the first edition of the Hangout this year were good and it is fair to say they got more than they paid for. What with a lineup of Maurice Kirya, Fik Fameica, and a hot DJ lineup.
The venue was set up with pallets and before the performances, revellers enjoyed indoor games while a tattoo parlour and barbershop was readily available for whoever was interested or needed a haircut.

Professor Joewi and the Black Wave Sounds band kicked off the performances at 8pm before London-based singer, Qoha, took to the stage with a sultry performance. She was later joined by rapper Tucker HD, with whom they did their recently released single, Kampala.

DJs Kasbaby, Melvin, Tony, Alza, and Marlyin followed thereafter, with an even more electric display.

The King of Soul, Maurice Kirya took to the stage and his appearance excited the crowd.

Without wasting time, he kicked off his performance with Nze Ani, a gospel song that got the crowd singing along lyric for lyric. With a live band that played every instrument with precision, complimented by significantly good sound, Kirya’s fans were in for a treat. He took the crowd through his catalogue, including songs from the past and those off his Road To Kirya album, songs such as Entebbe, Busabala and Bbuba, among others. He also proved that his vocals are not his only area of strength as he played the guitar to the excitement of the crowd.

It was now up to Fik Fameica to prove whether he could match up to Kirya’s performance. It seemed like a hard task going by Kirya’s display but Fameica’s upbeat songs were his strongest ally. He made the crowd jump and sing along to his songs, which were carefully selected.

He put up a stellar performance with songs such as Property, My Guy, Gwe Abisobola, Bwepaba, Majje, and Buligita, among others.
To wind the night, MC Adele Kiele and Lynda Ddane took matters in their hands until late in the night.
