Comedian Reign announces bid for Rubaga South MP seat

Comedian Obed Lubega alias Reign

Comedian Obed Lubega, popularly known as Reign, announced his intention to run for the Rubaga South Member of Parliament seat in 2026. He made the declaration on Sunday at Theatre La Bonita in Kampala during the “Soyi Soyi” comedy show.

Reign, a member of the Reign and Maulana comedy duo, told the audience, “I am going to contest as a Member of Parliament for Rubaga South, come what may.” The announcement was met with excitement and ululations from the crowd.

If successful, Reign will join a growing list of entertainers who have transitioned into politics, including the late Kato Lubwama, Bobi Wine, Geoffrey Lutaaya, and Dr. Hilderman.

Reign, a former primary school teacher, has been in the arts industry since 2014, starting as a member of Diamonds Ensemble under the late Kato Lubwama. He later teamed up with Maulana to form the popular comedy duo. Reign holds a Diploma in Education from St. Lawrence University and is a member of the National Unity Platform.

With his background in education and comedy, Reign aims to leverage his popularity and credibility to serve the people of Rubaga South.”
