A love affair with whisky

Some love it neat, others love it on the rocks, while many ladies love it in cocktails. You may have seen some even add hot water or soda to enhance or add new flavours. The question that remains is, how do the true connoisseurs love their scotch whisky?

It may take a while for one to know how one truly loves their whisky but after many experiments, each one of us will choose our unique path and stick to it. By experimenting, one is bound to discover new fun ways to entertain one’s palate. It goes without saying that without experimenting as much as possible, one may never get to know what they are missing.

This was the tutorial guests got at the launch of the Love Scotch Affair campaign at Molecule Lounge in Kololo last week.

“This campaign is about discovering new, fun, and exciting ways to enjoy our scotch. This campaign will be led by Johnnie Walker, flanked by four other whisky brands.  I am thrilled to bring this experience to our consumers,” Christine Kyokunda, the scotch & reserve brand manager at UBL, said.

The campaign that will run in 25 selected pubs between June and July is aimed at demystifying scotch whisky to Kampala’s young party animals. For instance, to the untrained palate, all whiskys taste the same but with the guidance of connoisseurs, one is able to tell them apart by flavour, spices, age and so on. This not only informs better choices, it also potentially promotes responsible drinking.

It was an exclusive affair where those in attendance were taught how to taste scotch for different aspects such as smokiness, fruitiness, smoothness, and flavours. This, complete with food pairings.

So, the next time you see people take a sip with a far away look while taking small bites of nothing, they are not showing off, they are trying to detect the different flavours, and probably trying to determine if this particular drink is for them.
