Kataleya and Kandle rebrand, share their story after six-month hiatus

Kataleya and Kandle

Following over six months of silence, female musicians Kataleya and Kandle returned two weeks ago. According to rumors, the two had fallen out with Theron Music, a record label they were signed to, over a number of unknown reasons.

Earlier this month, Kataleya and Kandle, who have now rebranded themselves as “K & K Music,” reopened their social media accounts under the “K & K Music” name. Two of their newly created accounts, Facebook and Instagram were however hacked on that very day and they only had access to X and TikTok.

A week later, the duo released a brand new song dubbed ‘Tompa’ which they recorded in collaboration with Swangz Avenue’s diva Vinka. The video of the song which was uploaded to a new YouTube channel named KK Music with over 2.6 K subscribers has so far gained 67k views ever since it was published on the channel six days ago. The song is also currently receiving massive airplay on different media stations.

While appearing on a television interview on Wednesday this week, Kataleya and Kandle shared about their whereabouts in the past months and the woes they had with Theron Music.

“We have been in the country. We got some misunderstandings with our former management, so we needed time to reflect. We needed time to be with people who care about us specifically our immediate family members,” explained Kandle on the Rewind Show airing on Galaxy TV.

When asked to share in detail where the misunderstanding with their former management could have sparked the duo were hesitant to give a reply but rather explained that the misunderstanding arose just like it happens to any other people or partners doing business. However, they applauded their former bosses for promoting their music careers to a point where they could be recognized by many people.

They were also quick to deny that their separation was related to having any sexual relationships with some members of their former management team as it had been speculated months back when rumors about them falling out with Theron Music Label started circulating.

The duo also confirmed the rumor that CCTV cameras had been installed in the apartment that was rented for them by their former bosses to monitor their movements and actions. This among other allegations was pointed out as one of the reasons why the two divas were forced to part ways with the music label that brought them into the limelight.

How Kataleya and Kandle met

Kataleya, real name Namakula Hadijah, and Kandle, real name Nabatuusa Rebecca Robins met each other at a birthday party (Kataleya’s) after being connected by one of their friends. The two had their aliases Kataleya and Kandle respectively even before they met. Kandle specifically started with a solo music career and recorded a few songs that were not released. The two started as a duo around 2019 as they juggled music and their business of selling clothes.

Produced by Ronnie On Dis One, their very first song was never released or played on any media platforms. It was this song that they performed during the auditions for Theron Music in 2021 that led to their signing with the company.

‘Tonafuya’, ‘Muzibe wa Love’ and ‘Do Me’ were the very first songs they released after being signed under Theron Music and these greatly contributed to their breakthrough at a time when the country went into a nationwide lockdown following the global pandemic COVID – 19.

By the time things fell apart between them and their former management, Kataleya and Kandle had released an Extended Play named “Call It Love” composed of six tracks that had also started doing well. After their rebranding, it is not yet clear whether Kataleya and Kandle will be allowed to perform all the songs they recorded as they were still signed to Theron Music.
