Thugs put out the candle of Teso’s budding gospel artiste

Pastor Douglas Osire (RIP)

Last Friday evening after exchanging godly pleasantries with his colleagues, Pastor Douglas Osire embarked on his journey home to rest.

However when he reached around Kyaliwajala, Kampala, thugs wielding iron bars attacked and beat him up, leaving him half-dead.

Despite the effort of good samaritans who found and rushed him to a nearby clinic and later Mulago Hospital emergency unit, his injuries were too severe for life to hold onto longer.

Doctors at Mulago conducted brain surgery in a desperate effort to address a blood clot caused by the impact; unfortunately, he did not recover and passed away.

Teso is now mourning the painful passing of Pastor Osire who was a celebrated gospel musician and youth pastor at Embassy of God Ministries led by Pastor Dennis Amos Emojong.

The 29-year-old recently released the ‘Spirit in Motion’ album, with the lead song “Emamei” attracting powerful reverence among secular and gospel music lovers alike.

“He was a very calm and down-to-earth person who loved God. We are going to dearly miss him,” said Miss Amina Namweya a youth leader at the Embassy of God Ministries Bukedea branch where she met late in 2022 after he had gone there to train the youth choir.

Miss Namweya described Osire as a young man whose devotion to serving God also saw him committed to trying to transform fellow youth to live meaningful lives.

“He led the youth ministry where he was always offering insights and sharing his difficult past challenging fellow youth to live within their means while trusting in God,” Ms Namweya who also hosts the Sunday gospel program on Mama Bukedea Radio said.

While Mr. Julius Enyalu the newly appointed Assistant Resident City Commissioner Soroti strongly condemned the killing of Pastor Osire.

“Every life matters, youth lives matter, Iteso lives matter, Ugandan lives matter. There’s a strong need for people to value people’s lives above material gain,” Enyalu emphasized.

The passing of the young pastor has gripped his family deeply with all still unable to come to terms with it.

“It’s a very hard blow to the family because he has been a person we all looked upon to lift the family banner high,” Miss Lilian Titin, the Aunt to the late Osire said, adding, “He was young but the entire family looked up to him!”She said, “He has been an easy person who you can’t find at fault at any time. It’s such a pain to lose him,” Auntie Titin said while sobbing.

“We pray that wherever the perpetrators are, God will deal with them because as a family, we are unable but God’s able,” Miss Titin who works as an administrator at Soroti Stones and Concrete Industries Limited cried.

Emong Johnson Otinga a veteran musician and also chairman Teso Musicians Association mourns the passing of Osire as something that’s created a gap in preaching the word of God.

“It’s so unfortunate that thugs have cut short the life of a young man who was using talent and knowledge to preach the word of God through sweet music,” Mr. Otinga said before urging all musicians in Teso and beyond to come together to help give their friend and fellow artist a befitting burial.

Douglas Osire’s burial is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2024, in Kanapa Village, Ongino Sub-County Kumi District while his legacy in gospel music and ministry will always be remembered and cherished in Teso.
