Established artistes to receive the bigger amounts of money from federation Sacco – Azawi

Recently, the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) received nine billion shillings for their Savings and Credit Co-operative Organisation (Sacco).

Gender and Culture State Minister Peace Mutuuzo defended the amount, stating the money went into the Sacco for empowerment and upliftment.

However, Swangz Avenue artiste Priscilla Zawedde also known as Azawi says otherwise.

As she authoritatively stated on her X, the Federation SACCO money was allocated, but only established artistes received the largest amount and are not required to pay it back.

“It’s shocking that the already “established” artists are the ones that got the fattest amounts and are not obliged to pay back. However, those who struggle are the ones who are borrowing with no duty to pay back,” Azawi tweeted.

Azawi has some urgent questions despite not specifying exactly who received the money.

“I would like to know if these struggling artists are aware of the repercussions of failing to repay government funds. What if their entire catalog of music is taken away by the government? Are they prepared for that? ”
