Joseph Beyanga
“It’s been 23 years and 4 months of fun, thrilling challenges and I enjoyed them all. I walk on with a full heart and shall always, always, be grateful,” these were the words of Joseph Beyanga the Head of Radio at Nation Media Group as he announced his retirement.
In an appreciation message to his employers via a post on X (formerly Twitter), Beyanga wrote: “Thank you NMG; you gave me the opportunity to explore, experiment, and thrive. I loved every single working day, the friendships, the collaborations and you made many many of my dreams come true.”
The experienced radio programmer joined Nation Media Group in 2001 as a radio producer at then Monitor FM before the station was rebranded as KFM. He grew through the ranks to the point of being appointed as Head of Radio at NMG Uganda. Nurturing radio talent is one of the things he will also be remembered for. He also served as Secretary General of the National Association of Broadcasters.
Beyanga who prides himself on his alias Joe Walker is also a road safety enthusiast who seeks to raise awareness about saving lives on the road. His advocacy gave birth to “The Joe Walker Campaign” a road safety awareness campaign he has promoted for the last two years.
Several employees at KFM took to social media to appreciate and thank their boss for a job well done.
Becky Nantale the host of the K Drive said: “I walked into NMG in smithereens and you saw me, you truly saw me, and for that I am grateful. For the 3 most fulfilling years of my career, for those I thank you. You remain to me Joseph Beyanga one of the most decent human beings to ever walk the earth and a true friend. May you soar Mr. B.”
“Thank you so much, boss. Thank you for believing in me. It’s been 11 great months of learning and working with you. Thank you for being a great mentor and a great boss. Godspeed in all your endeavors,” wrote Aggie Uwase the host of D Hook on KFM.
Collins Bareija alias Emeka the Romantic Mukiga the presenter of the K Drive show was also appreciative like his colleagues. “I have a story about Mr B. He chose me to fill big shoes and trusted me. He gave me a chance on a big platform and I appreciate it. Thank you for your guidance and for shaping my radio career. We will miss you and all the best in your new venture,” he said.
