Rotarians, known for their unwavering dedication to service above self, rightly took a break to revel in their achievements and unity at the District Governors Banquet last Saturday,  marking the thrilling finale of the three-day extravaganza that had kicked off earlier in the week at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

Hosted by the lively rotary club of Kampala Ssese Island, the Governor’s Banquet not only saw Rotarians strategise for the upcoming year but also recognise and celebrate individual clubs that had gone above and beyond in various projects.

The banquet also doubled as a heartfelt farewell to the outgoing district governor, Edward Kakembo Nsubuga and a warm welcome to the Governor-elect Ann Nkutu.

In her speech, Nkutu thanked everyone for their support and pledged to serve to her best. Known for her story telling, especially to people around her, she had a story for the night.

With a Gatsby era theme, Rotarians showed up in their finest attire and were treated to a mouthwatering feast featuring scrumptious traditional Ugandan delicacies as well as a bespoke selection of Johnnie Walker cocktails.

As the evening unfolded, the atmosphere transitioned from elegant dining to electrifying entertainment. While guests anticipated Bebe Cool to grace the stage, they were in for a delightful surprise when Sheebah took the stage first.

Bebe Cool, who was supposed to perform at 10pm according to the programme, was invited on stage two hours later and his session was live. He did songs such as Fire Burn Dem, Fire Anthem and Mbozi Zamalwa, before calling on the Governor Elect to join him on stage to dance to his Kabulengane, Teka Sente Wolaba, Kasepeki and Love You Everyday songs. The sound by Legends Entertainment was, however, not at its best during his showcase.

Love or hate him, Bebe Cool will speak his mind and despite being paid for this gig, he threw jibes at the organisers for poor time management, calling upon the new team to rectify this problem in the coming conferences.
