Beenie Gunter returns home after weeks in detention

Beenie Gunter

After months under detention in UAE, Dancehall singer Beenie Gunter real name Crescent Baguma has returned home.

Beenie Gunter silently returned earlier today and was received by his baby maama Nickie Berry and his son Joshua Baguma at Entebbe International Airport.

Beenie Gunter was arrested on January 21, 2023, at a Dubai airport while boarding a plane to travel back to Uganda. This was after he was said to have been involved in a scuffle with two music promoters.

He had travelled to UAE for two performances; the first one at V-Club in Dubai and another in Abu Dhabi. He however found himself at the center of chaos when two promoters failed to agree on a few things after the Dubai show.

Their disagreement turned physical and Beenie Gunter was caught up in the mix trying to calm things down. The scuffle had however caught the attention of authorities who arrested the singer as well.

He was transferred to Abu Dhabi and detained over allegations of violent conduct and vandalizing property.

His arrest caught the attention of many Ugandans including NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi who demanded his release by calling out all those concerned to join voices and demand for the immediate release of the dancehall singer.

“I have also learnt of the detention of musician #BeenieGunter in Abu Dhabi where he apparently had a performance on the weekend. Several artistes from Uganda and Africa have been unfairly detained in the UAE many times in the past. It’s important we join voices to demand that due process is served so that this brother can safely return home,” Bobi Wine posted.
