School girl inspires comedian Eric Omondi to construct bridge

Kenyan Comedian Eric Omondi has constructed a new bridge across Mugonga River at the border of Bomachoge Borabu and Bobasi Constituencies in Kisi County in South – Western Kenya.

Omondi who was supported by well-wishers through his campaign known as “Sisi Kwa Sisi” literally translated as (Together as one or “us for us”) started building the bridge in January this year to replace the narrow and dilapidated makeshift bridge that was putting the lives of those who were using it at stake. The comedian decided to rally his funs and well-wishers to embark on the project of erecting a steel bridge after watching a video clip that went viral showing a young girl identified as Shirleen Kemunto who was struggling to cross the old bridge to go to school.

“How do these leaders even sleep at night? So this little girl faces death every morning. If she makes one little mis step that’s it, we lose her! This child could lose her life just because of some greedy, glatonous and murderous leader! I am looking for this Girl, we have to save her. We will bring her and her family to Nairobi. She will never cross this bridge of death again,” Eric Omondi with great concern wrote on his socials weeks ago after watching the viral video.

The renowned comedian later announced that he was set to kick off the construction of a new bridge after tracing the family of the young girl who reside in Nyakumbati Village in Kisi County. He then called upon his team to join him on this philanthropic work.

On Thursday 15 February, Omondi announced the completion of the construction of the bridge which was named after the young school girl.

“Kemunto Bridge is complete. This young girl has changed the whole Community. She is a Hero. This bridge is not only Historical but also extremely symbolic. It symbolizes a people’s resolve, it Symbolises the power in unity!! That Kenyans can come together and solve their problems. We are bringing the gaps. The gaps between the POOR and the WEALTHY must and Can be Minimized and diminished. We are BRIDGING the Gaps created by Political and Tribal Divisions. TEAM SISI KWA SISI NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!!! TOGETHER EVERYTHING IS ACHIEVABLE!!!”

This is not the first time Eric Omondi is involved in doing philanthropic work in his Country. He has been seen on several occasions actively doing community, charity and philanthropy work to help those in need in different parts of Kenya something that has continuously earned him praise and respect with some thinking that he might have intentions of vying for political positions in his Country.
