Comedian Maulana released from prison

Maulana

Renowned comedian Maulana Kasozi of the comedy duo Reign and Maulana has been released from jail after spending two nights behind coolers on charges of family neglect.

The comedian appeared before the Resident State Attorney Mwanga II Court in Mengo and was directed to provide annual child support amounting to Shs10 million equivalent to 830k per month.

The court issued an arrest warrant for the comedian after the mother of his children filed a complaint that he wasn’t taking care of her and the children.

It is reported that Maulana had defied court orders of taking care of his three children after failing to raise Shs15,000 daily according to Shubira Naluja.

“He is not doing anything. I struggle to look for what to feed the children. The landlord is demanding rent and previously he used to visit and leave with pennies which couldn’t help us. And when I felt I couldn’t take it anymore, he asked me to give him the children,” she had narrated on Bukedde TV last Saturday.

In response to the allegations, Maulana took to social media to defend himself, claiming that Naluja suffered from mental disorder and disclosed that she had allegedly attempted to poison both of them and went ahead to share a referral note from Butabika hospital.
