Comedian Don Andre brings Salvador back to the stage

Don Andre the host of the show on stage

According to comedian Patrick Salvador, he was on stage last year after organizing a comedy show for Daliso Chaponda, an international comedian who performed at Theatre La’bonita on November 3, 2023. Ever since that day, Salvador had not stepped on any Ugandan stage regardless of the weekly and monthly comedy shows happening in Uganda.

On Tuesday this week, comedian Andrew Odongo alias Don Andre held the first episode of his Funny Bunny comedy show of the year. Held at Wombo Restaurant, located on George Street behind Central Police Station, the event was a huge success.

Some of the revellers having a good time

Don Andre hosted the show, which featured comedians such as Dr Hillary Okello, Mudhaasi, Uncle Mark, and Patrick ‘Salvador’ Indringi as the headline act. In contrast to other weekly events that began around 10 p.m., the Funny Bunny Comedy show ended at 10 p.m. After the guests took their seats, Congolese guitarist Chris Bahizi played music as he welcomed the show’s attendees.

Don Andre took to the microphone by 7:30 pm to engage the already full house with some jokes. As his opening act, he featured an up-and-coming female comedian named Cindy from northern Uganda.

Mudhaasi raised the bar a little higher when he delivered some of his jokes that revolved around the Church and Christianity. Akau Jambo came on stage though most people weren’t familiar with him but after his session, he got a standing ovation and became one of the night’s favourites.

Akau is a South Sudanese comedian who grew up and spent most of his life in Uganda. He has been missing from the Ugandan comedy scene for years now and it explains the need for much introduction and good deliverance to bring the audience up to speed.

Uncle Mark and Dr Hillary Okello performed before leaving the stage for the man of the night. On stage, Salvador from Ombokolo appeared to be having a great time while performing. His interactions with the crowd sent them into deep laughter. In an interview after his performance, Salvador said he was happy to be back on stage.

He further noted that the venue, Wombo restaurant was a great choice of venue for the comedy show since it gives the performer a chance to interact with his fans. He concluded by advising Ugandan comedians to pick a leaf.

According to Don Andre, the first show was successful and for the subsequent shows, he promises to deliver much more.
