Last Friday, Christians and followers of Watoto Church joined to revel as they revived their almost forgotten give-back event, Guntu Extra. The event was a success with performances that kept people on their feet.
Dancing for Jesus got a new definition last Friday as Christians revelled away at the Watoto Church organised Guntu Extra Concert.
The concert was organised to resurrect the once popular Guntu family event that had died out over the years. The Power FM powered events were always themed and we have seen themes such as Hollywood, 80s, kindergarten, kwanjula, and so on. Last Friday’s theme was Wakanda Forever and indeed at the Uganda Museum, people flocked in draped in eyecatching African attire, especially kitenge.
The evening kicked off with competitions including dancing for children and best dressed person. The winners got themselves shopping vouchers for Pep stores and t-shirts. The competitions were followed by performances from different dance groups and artistes JK Shine, Coopy Bly, Ken B, Robinson, Fortune Spice, Lagen, Cooper and Gway.
When Andrea Presson came on stage with a band, the mood shifted to bit of praise and worship and revellers were seen enjoying as they lost themselves into the music – Holy Spirit style.
The Canaan Gents crowned the evening with a performance of both acapellas and their recorded songs. What the MC or the boys did not warn the crowd about was that Kenneth Mugabi would join in on Kyekunkuna. What better way to seal the evening!
