A few days ago, a video clip showing western Uganda music star, Ray G speaking about his disappointment with central Uganda artistes did rounds on social media. This was after his altercation with Swangz Avenue artiste Azawi over who should perform first during the Comedy Store show in Mbarara City in western Uganda.
After days of speculation from fans about what could have happened on the fateful day, Azawi, real name Priscilla Zawedde has come out to give her side of the story.
In a long social media post, Azawi said: “Your interruption during my performance, along with verbal abuse, and now using this for attention, deserves an apology from you. As an artiste, I don’t control event schedules. When my music is playing and the promoter hands me the mic and the stage, I perform. Your attempt to disrupt my set was unprofessional,” reads part of her post.
Azawi further added that this is a recurring trick Ray G plays in Mbarara, undermining fellow artistess but her commitment to her craft and the respect for her audience is of utmost importance and that she will not allow anyone to diminish that.
“Unfortunately, you have resorted to exploiting tribal/regional sentiments for publicity,” she added.
The Ten Over Ten singer went on to promise to honor the expectations of her Mbarara fans always because to her every performance will be genuine, unaffected by any self-centered, opportunistic actions from other artists or politicians.
“My loyalty lies with my music and genuine interaction with my fans, not with those who used publicity stunts for personal gain. Hope you all have a blessed peace seeking New year,” she added.
