World Tourism Day celebrations highlight Bunyoro region’s rich tourism potential

On the occasion of World Tourism Day 2023, Hoima City played host to a vibrant celebration that showcased the region’s rich tourism potential with a focus on green investments, job creation, and bolstering domestic tourism, the event was a resounding success, drawing participants from all walks of life.

Bunyoro Region, renowned for being home to remarkable tourist attractions, including the iconic Murchison Falls National Game Park, Uganda’s largest and most popular national park, took center stage on this special day.

The celebration kicked off with a thought-provoking Mayor’s Round Table discussion organized by UNDP Uganda and partners. Local leaders, tourism stakeholders, and government officials engaged in constructive dialogues addressing critical topics, such as promoting green investments, creating jobs through tourism, and the overall development of Hoima City.

As the day progressed, Boma Grounds in Hoima City became a hub of excitement, hosting the World Tourism Day concert.

Attendees were treated to electrifying performances by renowned songstress Irene Ntale and the sensational Ghetto kids, whose unique dance talents left the crowd thrilled.

The event also featured a procession around Hoima City, emphasizing this year’s theme, “Tourism & Green Investments.” The theme resonated strongly, highlighting the importance of environmentally responsible tourism practices and the need to protect the natural and cultural heritage of Bunyoro.

Mr. Brian Kaboyo, the Mayor of Hoima City, expressed his gratitude to all participants for their warm welcome and dedication to matters that will contribute to the development of tourism in the region.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, the guest speaker for the day, emphasized the significance of this year’s theme, emphasizing that it bears a crucial message for both the tourism and energy sectors in the region.

Mayor Brian Kaboyo welcomed participants to Bunyoro Region, promising days filled with fun and adventure, and encouraged everyone to explore the region’s many attractions.

World Tourism Day 2023 in Hoima City celebrated the beauty and potential of the Bunyoro Region, emphasizing the importance of sustainable tourism practices. As the world commemorated this special day, participants and organizers alike left inspired and motivated to continue promoting tourism and green investments in this breathtaking region of Uganda.
