We will not be performing in Uganda – UB40

Legendary British band, UB40 has distanced itself from an upcoming concert dubbed “UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell’  slated to happen on December 21, 2023, at Kololo Airstrip in Kampala.

According to a statement published on the Band’s official website, the claims that hat the band will return for the second and last time are untrue and that they hope to return to Uganda in future.

The band clarified that former vocalist Ali Campbell, who left UB40 over 15 years ago (2008), is slated to perform in Uganda, purporting to feature the original band.

“He is touring with the name “UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell. However, there are in fact no members of UB40 in this group and ex-member Ali Campbell is misleading fans and the general public by billing the tour as UB40 and UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell,” the statement reads in part.

“There is not a single member of UB40 in Ali Campbell’s backing group – and none of his band have ever performed with UB40, or contributed to a UB40 record,” the statement reads further.

Fifteen years ago, the English reggae and pop band, formed in December 1978 in Birmingham, England, staged what entertainment analysts described as the biggest concert in Uganda ever, when they pulled thousands of revellers at Lugogo Cricket Oval

This publication has learnt that 4 out of 5 of the surviving founding members of UB4; Robin Campbell, Jimmy Brown, Earl Falconer and Norman Hassan, have been touring and releasing albums globally despite Campbell’s departure.

The band has had more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart, and has also achieved considerable international success
