Ruokaya Kiyayi Nabukonde is Miss Tourism

After months of searching, boot camp, and regional tours, the Miss Tourism beauty pageant came to a climax last Saturday morning with Sironko’s Nabukonde Kiyayi Ruokaya clinching the coveted title.

Themed “Greening Tourism”, the grand finale of the 11th edition of the contest, happened at Serena Hotel with the 19-year-old representing the Eastern region, emerging the best from the 27 contestants who made it to the crowning night.

“I emerged victorious due to my extensive knowledge and comprehensive understanding of all tourism destinations and related matters in Uganda. I am committed to collaborating closely with pertinent stakeholders to advance the tourism sector in this country,” She stated soon after being crowned.

In second place was Apero Martha from Karamoja while Akello Mary from Teso region came third. Being this year’s winner, Nabukonde got a plot of land, complete with title from Three Ways Property Consultants, received a round-trip air ticket to Dubai courtesy of Uganda Airlines, a year-long subscription from Platinum Wellness SPA, and a scholarship from DAS Aviation.

Martha Apero on the other hand was rewarded with a return ticket to Mombasa from Uganda Airlines and a six-month subscription to Platinum Wellness SPA while Akello Mary, the second runner-up, was granted a three-month subscription to the same wellness haven.

However, the organizers of the beauty pageant stated that starting this year, if a queen misrepresents the pageant in any way, they will have to dethrone her and hand over the title to the first runner-up.
