‘Holiday’ was chosen as the theme song for this year’s ‘Nyege Nyege’ festival happening from November 9-12, 2023 at the Source of the Nile in Jinja.
Problem Child is the composer of the song and he’s originally from Saint Vincent but currently based in New York.
On why the organizers dwelled on ‘Holiday as this year’s theme song, Derek Debru, the co-founder of Nyege Nyege said the song reflects this year’s carnival vibe.
“The song reflects this year’s carnival vibe of Nyege Nyege and musically it also draws more connections with soca, bouillon, and dancehall, all genres that Ugandans vibe to but have rarely access to. We loved the lyrics and felt like it reflected the excitement and anticipation of our fans,” he said.
Problem Child’s other songs include ‘Fete It Up’, ‘Feel It’, ‘Nasty Up’, ‘Love De Road’, ‘Rum Sweet’ and ‘Rock Again’ among others.
Derek Debru said that this year, revelers should expect a pristine event from the point of view of accessibility, accommodation, sound, light, and security, and from an entertainment perspective they should expect more interactive experiences.
“We don’t want spectators, we want everyone to feel they are part of the festival and the vibe, and many activities will be geared towards this. There will be more exciting activities including tubing, boat rides, and many others currently under development.”
Nyege Nyege proudly organized by Talent Africa will be returning for its 8th edition in Jinja City and the festival will be held at four locations which include; the Source of the Nile, Jinja Showgrounds, Jinja Golf Course, and Source Gardens – forming what is being hailed as the ‘Nyege Wonderland.’
