Authorities in Masaka City have finally cleared the annual mega street music festival following contention with organisers on the appropriate street for the event.
Every August, Mutima Promotions Ltd organises the mega music festival and this year’s event is slated for tomorrow, August 26.
City authorities had blocked the street festival saying they had just planted flowers, grass and trees on Edward Avenue, where the organisers usually stage the event.
However, both parties have agreed to host the event on Victoria Street on which Masaka Main Mosque and the office of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) are located.
“We had no alternative, but to accept the street they gave us because it meets all the conditions set by the Mayor and her team,” Mr Robert Nkunke, one of the organisers, said on Thursday.
“We also admire a beautiful city, and ahead of next year’s event, we shall contribute to the cause of greening Masaka City,” he added
Mr Achilles Mawanda, the deputy Mayor of Masaka City told this publication that Victoria Road is appropriate to host this year’s street bash.
“We tasked the city clerk’s office to liaise with the organisers and we believe that Victoria Road which they agreed upon is very appropriate,” he said.
Masaka is one of the urban centres that have immensely benefited from the World Bank-funded Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) programme under which a green environment is one of the key aspects.
