Don Andre
Ugandan comedians have embraced the art of identifying a venue and sticking to it for a weekly or monthly comedy show. Like Fun Factory is known for holding a weekly show at National theatre every Thursday, Alex Muhangi’s comedy store every Wednesday, Timothy Nyanzi’s New Material night at Green Bistro every Monday and now we have Don Andre’s Funny Bunny Comedy Club every month.
The show was launched on July 25t, 2023 at Wombo restaurant, the venue that will see the show happening in for the next subsequent shows. Action kicked off at around 8: 30pm after the guests had started pouring into the venue at 7:30pm.
Andereya Baguma, a singer and guitarist opened the show with a musical performance before Don Andre came into change it from music to comedy. The first comedian that took on the stage was Conrad, an upcoming who used his time to show his comedy craft. Elvis Faki also came and joked for about 5 minutes before the real action took center stage.
Timothy Nyanzi who is a mentor of many young comedians did jokes that many comedy lovers prefer to call intelligent jokes because they are only understood by intelligent people.
Dr Hilary Okello who has also had his one man show recently was also at Don Andre’s to show his support. He cracked up the crowd with some of his jokes that he knows never leaves anyone calm. Dr Hilary did about 3 jokes but they were all funny and none of them could match the others as they were equally good.
As the host, Andre also didn’t leave the audience as he cracked some jokes before calling on the next performer. Ann Kansiime who was among the audience later turned a host as she was called on as a surprise act. She expressed her gratitude for Andre who was kick starting his comedy platform and said it was the way to go and was happy for Andre.
Daniel Omara later closed the show at around 10pm but according to Don Andre, the show will return at Wombo restaurant next month on a day that is yet to be communicated but we were tipped that the next comedian will be Emma Napoleone, Pius Mudhaasi, Agnes Akite and Sundiata among others.
