After a two-month talent search and promotion of cultural and traditional artistes in the Ankole region, the winners have a reason to smile after they were rewarded with gifts including land titles by Amity realtors, the sponsors for this event.

The competitions attracted 20 participants as individuals and troupes and these included among others Zajumera Cultural Troupe, Eirembo Cultural Troupe, Neihorere Talented Group, Kadingidi, Brenda Namara, and Ankole Elites.

Voting for participants was through social media and live performances at Nkore Place in Mbarara City. After the voting Ankole Elites emerged the best with 257 votes and Brenda Namara with 138 votes. The other closest challengers were Robert Mugabe 26 and Kadingidi 23 votes.

The winners Ankole Elites were given a 50 by 100 plot of land at Amity Realtors Rwenjeru estate while Ms Namara who became second received a cow.

Amity Realtors director Mr Herbert Tushabe said the purpose of the competitions was to grow local talents such that they can also earn.

“Most times cultural and traditional talents die quickly for lack of exposure and support. We identified this niche as a kind of talent that is not always promoted and supported,” said Mr Tushabe.

He added that besides, culture and traditions have a significant role play in society like teaching morality, economic transformation, environment protection, and food security.

Mr Tushabe added that every two months they will award two winners for this year but added if funds allow and more partners come on board they can do it as frequently as possible.

Ms Namara who won a cow said the competitions and support will encourage the growth of local talent that is always given less attention.

“Cultural and traditional artistes and groups fade easily because they are not supported, if other partners came out to support as Amity has done then this talent will grow and employ many,” said Ms Namara.
