Make Me Believe is exactly what it says it is in that little summary write-up on the streaming site. Two grandmothers; Precious (Kültür), as her granddaughter, Sahra (Turan), calls her, and Semiha (Sumer) trick their grandchildren into joining them at the coast. Their goal is to get a romance going. The other half of this couple is Semiha’s grandson, Deniz (Koç). The two grandmothers feign an emergency, which works on getting the two to the beautiful coast. Guess they also factored in a beautiful location into their romantic scheme. When Sahra and Deniz meet, it turns out that they already knew each other from their teenage years and had a bitter falling out. Now their grandmothers are determined to rekindle their romance, with some help from their respective friends.

I want to be coy and ask, “Will their plotting work?” But we have watched enough romcoms to know how this story ends. Watching romcoms at this point is not to find out whether the couple ends up together, but how they end up together. In Make Me Believe, we have the hot couple and beautiful scenery to keep us interested. The storyline is not the reason you will keep watching. And no, the fact that this is a Turkish movie is not the reason for the so-so story. The writer just did not seem to care about filling in some of the things we wondered about. For instance,, the beef between Sahra and Deniz from their teenage years does not make sense. Then when the couple finally get together, we do not really get why. The only reason seems to be because that is what is expected to happen.

It is not the worst romcom on the streaming site but neither is it the best. It does make a good filler if you are also waiting for all the episodes of the latest season of The Witcher to get on the site. No way the series will be as predictable as this movie.
