Kato Lubwama to be buried after one week

Preparations for the sendoff of celebrated Ugandan comedian Kato Lubwama have kicked off following his demise on Wednesday morning.

Several artistes and politicians have since flocked to the fallen comedian’s home in Mutundwe, Rubaga Division to console and sympathise with his family and friends. These include Kampala Central Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko, former Rubaga North legislator Moses Kasibante, musician Meseach Ssemakula, actor Sam Bagenda alias Dr Bossa of the Ebonies, Mr Charles James Ssenkubuge from Bakayimbira Dramactors, Ms. Mariam Ndagire and others.

Honourable Muhammad Nsereko a close friend of the deceased, told journalists that, while he was still alive, Lubwama often mentioned to his close friends that he had to be buried after a week in case of death.

“I want to assure you that what Kato put in his Will is what we will follow. He has always said it to me directly and secretly and we shall follow it as it is,” said Nsereko.

“Kato will be buried next week on Wednesday. We agreed because he mentioned it to us. Over 20 people knew about it. He told everyone close to him that he should be buried after one week if he died,” Kampala Central Member of Parliament and Chairman of the committee in charge of the burial arrangements of the deceased stated.

According to the tentative schedule, Kato Lubwama’s body will be transported to his home from the funeral home on Friday, June 9. On Sunday, June 11, there will be a mass at Lubaga Cathedral where his family and friends will pray for his soul. On Monday, June 12, his body will be taken to the National Theatre where fellow artistes will officially mourn and pay their last respects to him. He will be laid to rest on Wednesday 14 June at his ancestral home in Nkozi, Mawokota in Mpigi District.

It is not yet known whether Parliament will pay tribute to their fallen comrade who represented Rubaga South Constituency in the 10th Parliament between 2016 – 2021.
