I had no coin when I ventured into comedy business- Salvado

Patrick Idringi popularly known as Salvado is one of the top stand-up comedians in the country whose brand has been built in about a decade ago to the point where he is now recognised as one of the successful rib crackers Uganda has got.

In the last 10 years, Salvado has organised six seasons of a comedy show dubbed Africa Laughs in which he has been able to attract a number of comedy superstars from the African continent to entertain comedy fans.

With all the posters for his previous Africa Laughs shows, the comedian, through his Facebook page shared a brief story on how the shows have evolved from being organised at what can be regarded as small venues to now a relatively bigger venue that can accommodate hundreds of revelers.

“It all began in 2013 when all I had was a dream that turned into an idea that I believed in and when you believe you can achieve. Without even a single coin in my pocket, I managed to convince superstars Basketmouth, Carl Joshua Ncube, Kansiime Anne, Eric Omondi, Teacher Mpamire with my partner Alex Muhangi to be part of my first ever edition of Africa Laughs, this is after establishing a strong friendship with these superstars, none of them asked for money, I went all out to source for sponsors, it was hard,” Salvado writes.

Continuing, “Sourced advise from Mr. Stephen Produsah of Fenon (A man I’m forever grateful to and for), he told me, the first one is usually hard, as long as you have the artistes, just get a venue and I will help you produce the show .. Alaaaaaa I managed to get the venue which was Imperial Royale Hotel than to now late General Manager Rufus (RIP). All this without a single coin.”

According to Salvado, the show happened and it was massively attended mainly through complimentaries because he needed it to attract sponsors.

“With my first ever show, I was 40 Million in debt but all my debtors believed in me and gave me ample time to repay. This I did in 2015 when I successfully held my one man show #ManFromOmbokolo,” he revealed.

“Well what can I say, every season kept on growing, from Imperial Royale Hotel to the Kampala Serena Hotel and now to Kololo Airstrip. It has been nothing but growth and support from different individuals and companies a few of whom I will personally mention. Thank you Rajiv Ruparelia Nakiyaga Annette Steve Jean, RwandAir, Harold J Lwanga, ?àñìé? Ogong, Sam Hooper, Francis Nyende, Aly Alibhai, Talent Africa Group. So many to mention but these are just a few of the many who have supported me over the years and not forgetting the comedians and musicians that have graced the stage,” the man from Ombokolo appreciated the stakeholders who have supported him.

This year, Salvado will be celebrating 10 years of the Africa Laughs Show with Season 7 of the show also named as the “Unprovoked Edition” that is scheduled to happen on August 12, 2023 at Kololo  Airstrip.

“As we celebrate 10 years of the Africa Laughs Show I promise you a super line up from Jamaica, Nigeria, South Africa, South Sudan, Ghana and of course Uganda,” he mentioned.

The last seasons of the Africa Laughs Comedy Show also attracted the appearance of acts like Daliso Chaponda, a 2017 Britain’s Got Talent finalist who currently lives in England, Celeste Ntuli from South Africa, Nqobizitha Mitchel alias Q Dube, Ronnie Mcvex, Madrat and Chiko, among others. Musicians like Azawi, Ykee Benda and Harmonize from Tanzania.
