The Federation on June 15, announced its partnership with Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA) one of the leading law firms in Uganda.
According to Edirisa Musuuza alias Eddy Kenzo, the UNMF President, this partnership is a significant step forward for the Federation, as it will provide a valuable resource for musicians in Uganda.
Eddy Kenzo mentioned that KAA’s legal expertise will help the Federation navigate legal issues in the music industry. These issues include copyright, licensing, and contracts, among others.
“This partnership will also help protect musicians’ rights and interests, ensuring they are fairly compensated for their work,” Kenzo said.
“Organizations like the Uganda National Musician Federation need to have strong partnerships with reputable law firms like KAA, as it will help to promote the growth and development of the music industry in Uganda,” he further noted.
Eddy Kenzo has also explained that with this partnership, the Federation and KAA can work together to create a more favorable environment for musicians in Uganda. This is both in terms of legal protection and growth opportunities.
This partnership has come at a time when the creative industry is still battling a well-established copyright law that can protect creative works from piracy, and exploitation but most importantly enable them to get paid when their work is used commercially.
The Uganda National Musicians Federation was created to unite musicians and promote their interests in Uganda by bringing together all associations in the industry under one umbrella. Its inaugural leadership team was announced on May 5, 2023 at a meeting held in Kampala which also saw Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja as Chief Guest.
Kampala Associated Advocates is one of the Country’s largest independent law firms with over 20 years of excellence in providing legal and advisory services.
