Four One One

Party did not stop as Helmet Cup sparks Entebbe

At every turn, Entebbe Golf Club (EGC) administration is always innovating. And it is absolutely necessary.

To keep East Africa’s oldest club vibrant, Entebbe invests a lot in thought and cash for the customary 19th hole prize-giving ceremonies.

On Saturday, Entebbe sparked again after a while when a group of about 170 golfers stuck by to celebrate the club’s relationship with Kilembe Mines Club during the annual Helmet Cup.

The first round of that two-legged affair at the par-71 course had Entebbe utilise home advantage for a 62-shot advantage over Kilembe.

But the healthy relationship spiced up by Hima Cement was celebrated long into the early hours of yesterday as the party hardly stopped.

Kato and the band marshaled the podium with plenty of oldies effortlessly played for the thrilled golfers.

With the gala dinner fading out, it is a Fundi masquerade theme that gripped the uniquely set sitting arrangement as many wore coloured masks.

On the course, however, the two-in-one championship also had the Captain’s Putter show which was used to usher in new Entebbe captain, Serwano Walusimbi.

After a round over the 18 holes, it is Brian Rwehabura who smiled most with a best score of 63 nett off handicap 25. Rwehabura, however departed early and missed the party.

But not for Venessa Peris who was the best female player with a return of 64 nett off handicap 18.
