The arts industry and the country at large are in shock following the sad new news of the demise of celebrated comedian, actor, artiste, and former Member of Parliament Kato Lubwama who passed on in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Upon learning about his death several personalities in the arts industry have since midnight utilised their social media platforms to eulogise and mourn the passing of their colleague.
John Ssegawa an actor, producer, and film director wrote on his Twitter account saying;
“An actor and a [theatre] director are both what I would call interpreters of work. We interpret a work, just as a musician will interpret a composer’s work, we interpret the work of a playwright. We are servants of the theatre and I’ve always believed that. We must serve what has been written, that’s what we’re there for.

Williams Mukisa Sserwadda a radio presenter also known as Selector Williams via his Facebook page said;
“As an artiste who has been able to create,your creations shall make you stay alive! It’s hard though to enjoy your art without you in flesh but only in spirit.
As you start a new journey that awaits us all,stay eternally peaceful and May God forgive all your weaknesses on planet earth…. Amen.”
The Ganda Boys formerly known as Da Twins also learnt about the news with shock. On their Facebook page the United Kingdom based singers said;
“One of the greatest talents of all time. Is it true that Uncle Kato Lubwama Paulo – Lubwax is gone? May Your Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.”
“Just waking up to the sad news of the passing of this Legend, your contribution to Comedy in Uganda deserves to be celebrated. One of the original masters of Sketch comedy, may the heavens receive you with open arms. Rest in Peace Hon. Kato Lubwama Paulo ” – said Stand-up Comedian Patrick Idringi also known as Salvador.
The news of the sudden death of the former Rubaga South Legislator was first made public by events promoter Mukasa Alphonse alias Bajjo Events Clear Process in a short live video clip. Kato Lubwama died due to a heart attack at Stana Medical Centre in Bunamwaya.
The late was an actor, Theatre Director, the Founder of dramatical group known as Diamonds Ensemble, a music band called Diamonds Production and B24TV. He represented Rubaga South Constituency in the 10th Parliament for one term from 2016 – 2021. He also worked with Buganda Kingdom’s radio station, Central Broadcasting Service (CBS FM) as a presenter.
By the time he breathed is his, Lubwama together with his fellow directors and Executive Producers Phillip Luswata and Charles James Ssenkubuge have been working on a stage play dubbed “Cease Fire” which is scheduled to take place on 29, July at Serena Hotel.
The drama production looks at the essence of Uganda’s state of affairs – the diminishing smiles and the mistreatment experienced from both friends and strangers and also aims at sparkimg conversations and reflection among audiences.
