The waistcoat; the new layering piece

A CLASSIC! This accessory has been here for ages, but modern styling options have made it so that you can pull it off on the broken suit look.

Don’t you just love an ensemble option that you can wear and seem effortless and on point, all the while actually having put in a lot of effort to pull it off? Well, that is what you will get with the waistcoat layered option. This classic accessory has been here for ages, but modern styling options have made it so that you can pull it off on the broken suit look, and easily blend it with so many other pieces from your wardrobe.

Read on to see how you can get your business casual look on with this statement-tailored piece.

Keep it suited

The safest way to pull this off would be wearing it with the matching tailored pants that you could decide to spice up by adding the shirt or simply keeping your waistcoat as the top detail on your upper body look. You can elevate this with a neckerchief, some layered neck pieces or even a deconstructed shirt collar to give the illusion of a shirt on your outfit.

With this outfit option, you can keep your footwear casual with sneakers or possibly brogues, or take the look a notch higher with some heels.

Break it up

This option allows for your waistcoat to be worn with other casual pieces, say jeans, skirts, or even other less dressy bottoms. You could, for instance, wear your denim jeans and white shirt and add the coat as the piece that brings your look together. You can also switch things up, by wearing your coat with a pleated skirt, khaki midi skirt or even your mini skirt. The trick is to keep the two parts of your outfit as cohesive as possible, meaning they need to blend into each other, without making you look like you are dressed in the dark. With this, also find ways to dress up your waistcoat by accessorising with lapel pins or brooches, some statement jewelry and a great pair of shoes.
