Mr Francis Peter Ojede, the Executive Director of the Uganda National Cultural Center (UNCC) has urged the dance community to use their skill to unify different cultures in the country.

“Through dance, we are able to express our emotions, tell stories, and connect with others in a unique and powerful way. Dance is a universal language that transcends borders and cultural differences and connects people from diverse backgrounds to create a sense of unity and belonging,” he said in a statement during the celebration of the International Dance Day that happened on April 29.

Celebrated under the theme; ‘The Dialogue with Nature Developing, Life and the World highlights’, Mr Ojede said that dance has the power to bring together people of all ages and backgrounds hence recognizing and appreciating the diversity of cultures that make up Uganda and the unique role that dance plays in preserving and promoting these cultures as a medium of expression, entertainment, and education.

Mr Robert Musiitwa, the Public Relations Officer at the UNCC explained that International Dance Day is commemorated every year to promote dance in all its forms across the world so that people get to know and understand the value of dance in all its forms.

“The purpose is to enable the dance community to promote their work on a broad scale so that governments and opinion leaders are aware of the value and importance of dance in all its forms and support it. We, therefore, encourage all Ugandans to embrace the joy of dance and to appreciate the important role it plays in our lives and communities,” he said
