Tourism official on the spotlight over beauty queens’ facilitation

As the ongoing #ExploreUganda tourism campaign gains momentum, a top organiser attached to the Ministry of Tourism is being accused of swindling allowances meant for the Miss Tourism regional queens.

During the recent Explore West, the queens from all regions, including Ankole, Buganda, Kasese, Tooro and Bunyoro as well as Miss Tourism Uganda were part of the faces of the campaign alongside influencers Salvado, Madrat and Chicco, Dance Mamweta and Sheila Gashumba.

However, one of the queens reached out to us to say they were made to sign for monies they did not receive.

“Imagine we were told we would receive more than 500K for all the days we explored Mbarara, Kasese through to Fort Portal. When the sign sheets arrived, our handler, who before setting off, told us we were at his mercy, said we append our signatures to 500K but give him 300K. We took home 200K each. Imagine!” the beauty queen told our snoops.

He is also accused of inflating the number of influencers.

Our whistle-blower is now wondering whether the Ministry of Tourism official will not fleece them ahead of the #ExploreNorth due May 29.

“This is the kind of assurance we want before we are whisked off onto another tour where we are meant to keep up appearances for peanuts,” she said.
