Vocal MP in the spotlight on his birthday over Ghetto kids tweet

Vocal youthful Kasambya County Member of Parliament, David Kabanda was on Sunday put in the spotlight after he tweeted what some of his followers considered inaccurate information about Ghetto Kid’s performance at Britain’s Got Talent last night.

The Ghetto Kids secured the first golden buzzer from Bruno Tonioli as the show returned for a new series last night.

The ITV talent show was back on screens for its 16th series on Saturday evening, with former Strictly Come Dancing judge Tonioli stepping in as a new judge to join Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Simon Cowell.

Like many entertainment enthusiasts, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) MP who claims to be the deputy spokesperson for the First Son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s MK movement, through his handle @DaudiKabanda tweeted: “The Chairman of the MK Movement Gen @mkainerugaba, wishes to congratulate the Ugandan Ghetto Kids for winning an award in the UK for their stellar performance. U made Uganda proud. It’s these talents & sporting abilities that the MK movement will be heavily investing in.”

The tweet attracted criticism from several of his more than 70,000 followers with many questioning which award he was referring to.

Others like musician YKee Benda, real name Wycliffe Tugume asked the movement to support the kids by constructing them a better house.

“Honourable abaana abo MK movement ebazimbileyo mansion sir ???? the deserve a beautiful home to stay,” the Kyaani singer replied to the tweet.

The children, aged between 5 and 13, are part of an organisation named Ghetto Kids based in Kampala, which uses music, dance and drama to help disadvantaged, street and orphaned children.

Dressed in matching green and patterned outfits, the group performed an energetic routine to a medley of songs which delighted the crowd and Tonioli so much that he could not wait to press the buzzer, sending golden confetti down upon them as they continued to dance.

It also happens to be the MP’s birthday.

Happy birthday Daudi!!

Meanwhile, former presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine who was once a self-proclaimed Ghetto president also tweeted congratulating the dance group.
” The Ghetto Kids make the word GHETTO sound like the best word in the dictionary. The ghetto is proud of you. Uganda, Africa, and the rest of the world are so proud of you. My greatest congratulations to you our dear GHETTO KIDS,” he said.
