Singer George Kwesiga alias Quex famed for Kachumbali hit is among the medical practitioners arrested yesterday at Galloway House, Mulago in Kampala after a medical protest.
The singer was part of the dozen pre-medical interns who marched to Parliament seeking the House’s intervention in their delayed deployment and welfare, but were violently arrested before reaching their destination.
The demonstration emerged amidst an ongoing social media campaign dubbed #UgandaHealthExhibition aimed at showcasing challenges faced by the country’s health sector. The 14-day long campaign is purposed to project critical issues in Uganda’s health sector.
Kwesiga graduated with a Bachelors in Medicine and Surgery at KIU University – western campus last year but has been waiting to be deployed in a hospital in vain, with the ministry of health arguing that there’s no money to pay medical interns allowances and supervise them.
Despite having other songs such as Lovely woman, Vibe ekutte, Mubitabo, Dusk till dawn and Nga maazi among others, it was Kachumbali that went on to top charts especially in 2019/2020.
