Easter celebrations come early with an orchestra show

Hosanna in the highest, they joyfully sang. Somewhere in the audience was a recognisable face, Susan Kerunen, who added to the melodic voices whose harmonic progressions tickled the audience into a sing-along and cheerful ululations.

For music is the food of the soul, they played on. The Africa Institute of Music, a christian teaching college, brought the Easter cheer a week earlier with a live orchestra, praise and worship service and concert on Palm Sunday at their home in Lubowa.

The early Sunday show was dubbed Easter Celebrations 2023 at which choirs; the Worship Band, Ngoma Ya Mungu and the Africa Phil Chamber Orchestra performed before an audience, which included young souls for two hours.

Each of the attendees was given a palm, which they waved as they sang and enjoyed the music. In a true and relevant Easter showcase, there was a dramatic moment where a youngster emerged from the back and momentarily carrying the cross, joined the choir which was singing a hymn.

The passion and dedication of the instrumentalists – pianists, trombone players, flutists, saxophonists – was admirable and was pleasurable to listen to as they played on and on.
