Tips to rock the red carpet

NEW LOOK: The iKon Awards are on tomorrow and the strict black-tie dress code has many perplexed, so here is a quick breakdown of what to do.

This weekend, film and television key players will gather at Kampala Serena Hotel for the first edition of the iKon Awards. The awards that will be celebrating the best of Ugandan film and television will also be graced by Nollywood royalty, Ramsey Nouah, who is already in town to attend the event.

And while red carpet events in Uganda are nothing new, it is the event’s strict Black tie dress code that has many perplexed about what their choices will be for the event. In my opinion, this is going to be one red carpet to look out for, as we see how the Ugandan film industry players make their interpretation of this theme.

If you are still among those who are unsure of what to wear, here are some fashion trends that would make for a great look.

Tuxedos for the men

A black-tie dresscode necessities you to execute a look that is elegant, glamorous and definitely formal. When it comes to the guys, your best option is going to be a tuxedo. This can be worn in varying details and should be matched with a bow tie. If you are, however, looking for variation with this ensemble, then you can switch up your jacket and wear it in another shade of your choice. Anything from white, maroon, blue or even green would make for a great choice for this. Keep your bottoms on this black, and explore shoe options such as formal dress shoes or suede loafers for your feet.

You can, however, stand out with your look for this, but switch up your bow tie for a neckerchief instead.

Glamour for the ladies

You can opt for a gown, which could be long or short, or switch it up with a suit, that is styled to be fitted into the black-tie theme. There are numerous style trends that you can explore to pull off this look, such as deconstructed sleeves, plunges, elaborate fabrics or other details that you can employ to your gown for it to stand out.

Adding other obvious details such as a trail, shimmer and matching jewellery will also go a long way to make your look stand out.

For the suited option, keep this neat, well fitted and accentuated with other details such as jewellery and a box clutch. You can switch up the shirt on your suit with something more edgy, such as a bedazzled bralet, and ensure to keep your jacket buttoned up with this ensemble.

Whatever you choose, ensure that it oozes elegance, glamour, and nothing casual or loud should be in your choices for an event like this.
