People with disability are often excluded in a number of things but in a bid to create equality, the second edition of Mr and Mrs Ability took place at Imperial Royale Hotel Kampala under the theme, ‘Transformative solution for inclusive development, the role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world’.
The event that happened on Saturday, was only for people with disabilities and started off at 4pm with models showing their different talents, showcasing creative, casual and cultural wear among others to the already excited audience, proving that disability is not inability.
The competition was stiff on the runway and gave the judges, including Phiona Nalinya, Michelle and Peter Ogik, a hard task shortlisting the best five.
After much thought and consideration, two were eliminated, leaving only three in contention for the top title.
The emcee of the day, Dr Naboth Coole, was entrusted with announcing the final verdict that saw Elijah Reagan emerge Mr Ability 2023-2024 while Paston Musimenta was crowned Mrs Ability 2023-2024.
The organising committee, led by Moses Bismac, had earlier traversed various parts of the country, picking up winners through different competitions and the winners camped at Evelyn Apartments, where they received training until the finals that saw 13 models participate; six female and seven males.
The event was wrapped up by Flavia K Rwabuhoro, the Woman MP Kyegegwa, who represented Hellen Asamo Grace, the Minister of State for Disability Affairs as the guest of honour.
Rwabuhoro commended the organisers for putting up such an inspirational pageant that rewards people with disabilities.
“I am really thankful to the organising committee for putting up such a successful event. You have proved that disability is indeed not inability. You have shown that these people matter in society, may God bless you all,” she said.
The guest of honor implored the minister of Finance to increase the budget of people with disabilities other than reducing their budget.
