When it comes to representing Uganda on the global scene, Joe Malaika is one of those names that will pop up. The fashion designer has showcased at some notable runways and his outfits have been embraced in the US, especially in Boston, where he lives.
The latest we have heard from Joe Malaika’s book is that he was named Black History Month personality of the year by Ugandans in Boston. The association was started to honour and appreciate a Ugandan who has excelled in a specific field and flown Uganda’s flag high. With Malaika’s tremendous job in fashion, it came as no surprise.
“I am very humbled and honoured,” Joe Malaika said in his acceptance speech. The 36-year-old is most known for his Excessive Fashion show and one of his most outstanding moments was when he showcased at one of Boston’s respectable stages on invitation to design creations for a ‘Velvet party’ at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
