I didn’t need Philly Bongole’s song to go places – Kenzo

Eddy Kenzo

Once again, Eddy Kenzo is on people’s lips after his statements regarding his rendition of Philly Bongole Lutaya’s Born in Africa song.

Kenzo released the video of the song that appeared on his Made in Africa album two years ago but has been ridiculed by the public who feel he did not do justice to the song.

During his press conference immediately after he returned from the US on Friday, Kenzo pointed out a few issues regarding the song and this has further put him into a tight spot.

The grammy nominee said that his intention of redoing the song was to push it further, not the other way round.

“I redid that song not that I wanted it to take me places because I have already reached. I have songs with millions of views yet Philly’s song has just 1 million views after a very long time meaning Philly doesn’t have any song bigger than mine. Numbers don’t lie,” said Kenzo.

He added that he respects him as a legend and the main reason why he redid the song is to push it even further, to take it on a bigger stage so that those who have never heard of it can get to appreciate who Philly Lutaya was.

Regarding sounding bad on the song, Kenzo said he could not sing it like Philly because he is not him but had to alter it to what is trending at the moment.

“I had to change it to what is trending. I had to add an Eddy Kenzo touch to it and make it danceable. I should be credited for redoing it because I am promoting Philly’s legacy and his family. Whoever doesn’t appreciate my version should listen to Philly’s version and ignore mine.”
