Bizibu: Movie Review

Bizibu movie cover.

By Bayan Nalubwama

Bizibu translated as problems is one of the surnames in Buganda that one needs to ponder on before naming a child. The power in the name is more of a curse whose meaning usually dictates and torments the child.

The writer of Bizibu the troubled son movie Swaib Nakibinge borrowed the nomenclature in telling the story of a young man ‘Bizibu’ whose granny named him so after a series of tragedies that befell their family before his mother bore him.

The movie tells a story of a young man who quits school because the teacher complains about his late coming. He spends the next days of his life stealing from his already poor mother, raping a girl and terrorizing the entire village before he escapes to Kampala.

While in town, he is recruited by a dangerous gang that terrifies the neighborhood including his own cousin who welcomed him in open arms.

Like it is said that ‘something must kill a man,’ Bizibu cuts his life short when he falls in love with the gang leader’s woman and also decides to fight for her love.

The movie is a production of Cranes Film Production and premiered in December 2022 at Club Ambience, Bukesa.
